How Competitive Intelligence Works in East13

Mar 27, 2026 · 3 min read

East13 does not just track your own SEO — it actively analyzes your competitors to find the gaps you can exploit. The Competitive Intelligence system combines three engines: GSC Optimization, Authority Scoring, and Backlink Strategy. Together, they surface the specific opportunities where you have the best chance of ranking.

How Competitor Analysis Works

East13 automatically identifies your top local competitors based on your industry, service areas, and the keywords you are targeting. It then monitors their rankings, content strategy, backlink profile, and Google Business Profile activity. You do not need to configure this — it starts working as soon as your site is connected and your services are defined.

GSC Optimization

Once your Google Search Console is connected, East13 pulls your real search performance data — impressions, clicks, click-through rates, and average positions. The GSC Optimizer identifies three types of opportunities:

  • CTR optimization — Keywords where you rank well but your click-through rate is below average. East13 flags these and can auto-queue title and meta description rewrites to improve clicks.
  • Impression mining — Keywords where Google is showing your pages but you are not yet getting meaningful clicks. These are signals that Google sees your content as relevant — a small push can turn impressions into traffic.
  • Cannibalization detection — When multiple pages on your site compete for the same keyword, they can suppress each other. East13 detects this and recommends consolidation or differentiation strategies.

Authority Scoring

Not all keywords are equally winnable. East13’s Authority Scorer estimates the domain authority barrier for each keyword — how strong the current top-ranking sites are. It then combines this with a weakness score (how thin or outdated the current top content is) to produce a combined opportunity score.

Keywords with high weakness and low authority barriers are flagged as golden opportunities — these are the keywords where you can realistically reach page one with quality content and a solid backlink profile.

How Opportunity Scores Work

Every keyword in your topic queue gets an opportunity score from 0 to 100. The score factors in:

  • Search volume — How many people search for this term monthly
  • Current ranking — How close you already are to page one
  • Competitor weakness — How thin or outdated the current top results are
  • Authority gap — How your domain strength compares to the competition
  • Commercial intent — Whether this keyword is likely to drive leads or revenue

Focus your attention on keywords scoring 70 or above. These represent the best return on your content investment.

The Competitive Intel Dashboard Panel

In your dashboard under Competitive Intel, you will see:

  • A ranked list of your top competitors with their estimated authority scores
  • Keywords where competitors rank and you do not (content gaps)
  • Keywords where you outrank competitors (defend these)
  • GBP activity comparison — review velocity, post frequency, and category usage
  • Golden opportunity highlights — the best keywords to target next

What Happens Automatically

You do not need to take manual action for most of this. East13 automatically:

  • Rescores authority and opportunity weekly
  • Boosts topic priority for golden opportunities
  • Queues CTR rewrites when GSC data shows underperformance
  • Flags cannibalization issues in your content queue
  • Updates competitor tracking daily

Your job is to review the opportunities panel periodically and ensure the topics being generated align with your business priorities. Everything else runs on autopilot.
